What is Stephen F Austin significance

Stephen F Austin was an American entrepreneur who was born in Virginia, and grew up in Missouri.

His significance lies in that he was the first White American to settle the then Mexican state of Texas, along with dozens of families that he brought with him.

They settled in Eastern Texas, and cooperated with the Mexican government to bring even more settlers, since Mexico wanted to populate the state, and Mexican people were not very interested in migrating there.
