American poet Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. She wrote nearly 1,800 poems but only 10 were published during her lifetime. Her style of writing did not fit with the times, so those that were published were edited to suit the rules and conventions. Four years after her death her first collection of poems were published (in 1890). Her work ushered in a new era of modern poetry and has made her one of the most prolific American poets. What is something you would like to be the first to do or achieve? Why?
