the year is 1932, times are hard, the month is cold, the city is loud.

Dear Lindsay cox, November 12, 1932.
How are you and the kids, I assume they are good because you got the money I don’t have to take care of them. Thank you my friend for taking them under your wing. You know times are hard. I have been looking for a job for one month now, No luck Lin. but I will still keep looking for a job. I don’t want to let my kids down. I promise you that I will and I will be stable enough to get Theodore and Sophie back.

P. S tell the kids daddy is working very hard to find a job and that I love them.

It’s very cold, I feel the breeze come through my light jacket and the holes at the bottom of my boots. I waited for the car to pass by then walk across the street from the post office to my house. I open the door to door to see the daily mail and newspaper on the ground on the doormat. The house is small, dirty with one damp floor and many candlesticks around the house. Brent steps and a floorboard breaks. He ignores it and picks up the newspaper to read there’s another food shortage, also if you need food there’s a food pantry four blocks away on the main street While drive. Then Brent walks over to his broken cabinets. Only to see there is stale bread and one can of corn beef. “It looks like I need to look for a job and get food,” he says to himself. Brent then starts to cry and throws the stale bread at the ground. He then thinks to himself that he has to stay strong for his kids, he's all they got. the mom left when things started to get bad, two meals a day was not good enough for her. Looks like she was after the money. It’s now getting late Brent picks up the bread from the floor, dusts it off, and eats it. He then goes outside to collect the rainwater that was in the bucket so he can take a bath. He picks up the bucket and goes to the outhouse in the back of his hut shaped house. He made the outhouse entirely out of scrap wood and tar. It’s not very sanitary. But it works for brent. After his bath, he goes to bed. His bed is potato sacks filled with hay. With a scratch wool blanket. He closes his eye and thinks about the long day ahead of him.

It’s November 13th, the day is even colder than the last, the city is even louder.

I wake up to hear a bang on my door, it’s my best friend Ediy. Ediy is an Irish immigrant with a big muscular build, big strong hands for work, with a red beard.

“Come on getting up you don’t want to make the wrong of it!!,” he yells.

“Oh man, I slept in a little too late I have to go to the food pantry today”. Brent then jumps to his feet to throw anything warm on and puts on his boots then heads to the door. The ice crunches underneath his feet. He’s greeted with a pats on the head. “ come, on let’s get a going” they walk side by side. Compared to Ediy, brent is almost his height with broad shoulders, black hair and an eye scared shut. Brent’s eye got infected a little after the great depression started. Didn’t have the money to go to the doctor. So before the infection spread, he removed it himself with the help of Ediy.

Dear friend Brent Howard, November 20, 1932, there is no need to thank me
