We have not held up to this principle whatsoever. The number of convicts wrongfully sentenced to prison for life is outrageous! When the United States preamble of the Constitution was written, one aim of the US was "to establish justice," which means to set up a fair and equitable system of laws - under which all persons are treated fairly.
