The Red Queen doubts Alice’s ability to read a book and a map, which Alice does with some success. The Red Queen tells Alice that she needs to reach the eighth square to become queen. This is a difficult task because of the twisted rules of Wonderland. Alice’s struggle to reach the eighth square is one of the main conflicts of the play.
