A safe state is a state in which everyone is agreed that the state will definitely vote Republican or definitely vote Democratic.

Swing states are states that have voted either way.

A safe state is a state in which everyone is agreed that the state will definitely vote Republican or definitely vote Democratic. For example, there is absolutely no question that New York, Massachusetts and California will vote Democratic. You want see a Republican candidate go there.

Likewise, there’s no question that Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota and all of the states in the deep South will vote Republican. Likewise, you want see a Democratic candidate go there.

Swing states are states that have voted either way. Wisconsin, Iowa and Florida are swing states. They all voted for a Republican candidate in 2016, but in 2012, voted for a Democratic candidate.
