In the movie Patriot what did Benjamin do at the Fort Wilderness

Benjamin had been fighting in the British Army in the previous war when he and several other soldiers discovered a French atrocity against the British. The enraged men caught up with the French at Fort Wilderness and slowly, methodically butchered all but two of them.
