President William Mckinley believed that annexing Hawaii would allow the Americans to have power over the Pacific and increase the commercial relationship with other Asian countries. He also think that Hawaii needed protection and it won't be able to stand on its own especially against the Japanese because it was helpless and didn't possess any form of military power to defend themselves.
