Patriots are termed as the people who wanted to gain their independence from Britain. They wanted their own country that is known as the United States. Loyalists are termed as the person who lived in the colonies of America but was so loyal towards Britain and wanted to break the colonies for them.

The Patriots wanted freedom from Britain because of the following reasons.:

They considered themselves as more independent and autonomous to be smart enough and handle the English crown. The Patriots were tired and angry to pay the heavy taxation imposed by the English government. They hated the idea that they did not have a voice of representation in the British Parliament. They sought justice from horrible incidents such as the Boston Massacre. Patriots wanted to have their own form of government and Constitution.

The loyalists wanted to remain loyal to Britain because of the following reasons:

Loyalists considered that the colonies had to respect the authority of the King of England. Loyalists thought that the colonies would not survive without the presence of the English monarchy. Loyalists believed that the colonies so much needed the British goods that were imported. African American Loyalists supported the British over the promise that the English would free them from their Patriots owners. Many Loyalists had investments in the colonies and did not want to lose their money in the case the Patriots could gain independence.
