Would you judge the government's policies for assimilating Native Americans to have been a success or a failure? Why?

The Trail of Tears was necessary to advance civilization. Throughout history it has been proven time and time again that civilization must make hard decisions in order to progress society. The invention of the Cotton Gin caused the slave trade to grow exponentially in popularity, but this brought attention to slavery as a problem, and it was abolished. More than twelve million jewish people died during the holocaust, but if it had not happened then society would never had learned of its flaws, and taught equality for all. Without this event, their could have been an even more massive holocaust that could have caused the deaths of millions more. The actions that have taken place throughout history can be described as inhumane and cruel, but without them the world may not be such a good place. The Trail of Tears secured land for agricultural and industrial purposes. The land helped us secure our borders, and provide security for the US. Though many died, and this was horrible thing, it was essential for the growth of America, and therefore a success.
