In 1842, Sam Houston wanted to take the archives of Texas and move them from the capital of Austin to Houston. President Houston wanted to protect them from possible damage because the Mexican army had invaded San Antonio, Goliad, and Refugio and Houston anticipated their approach toward the capital.
