Why did george washington only serve two terms as president

Washington wanted to make sure that the United States government was not going to be one like in England with one sole ruler for life, so he decided to give up his position as president before he died to model a system of only having two terms. He thought that two terms as enough for any president, and there should not be one person in power for over two terms.
