The preamble is an introduction to the highest law of the land; it is not the law. It does not define government powers or individual rights.
- ᎢᎻᎬ ᏚᎢᎪᎢᎬᎷᎬNᎢ ᎾF ᎻᏌᎷᎪN ᎡᏆᏩᎻᎢᏚ: It declares that human rights are universal – to be enjoyed by all people, no matter who they are or where they live. The Universal Declaration includes civil and political rights, like the right to life, liberty, free speech and privacy.

- ᏟᎻᎪᎡᏩᎬᏚ ᎪᏩᎪᏆNᏚᎢ ᎢᎻᎬ KᏆNᏩ ᎪNᎠ ᏢᎪᎡᏞᏆᎪᎷᎬNᎢ: If the Declaration had attacked the British Parliament, the colonists would be attacking the representatives of the British people, particularly in the elected House of Commons.
- ᎢᎻᎬ ᏚᎢᎪᎢᎬᎷᎬNᎢ ᎾF ᏚᎬᏢᎬᎡᎪᎢᏆᎾN ᎪNᎠ ᏚᏆᏩNᎪᎢᏌᎡᎬᏚ: A written contract made between married couples who intend to separate from each other. The contract documents specific details of how the spouses agree to separate.
