Amendment 1 - Laws cannot be made to discriminate religion. This amendment protects the five freedoms which are: freedom of religion, speech, press, petition, and assembly/protest.

Amendment 2 - You have the right to own and carry a gun with you with no consequences, as long as it's legal.

Amendment 3 - Soldiers can't live in your house without the consent of the house owner, even if there is a war going on. This amendment CAN be broken, but only if it's a law for whatever reason.

Amendment 4 - It protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. It does not guarantee protection from all searches, only those that seem unreasonable.

Amendment 5 - No person is allowed to be held to answer a crime unless an attorney is present. This is usually represented by the statement, "I plead the fifth".

Amendment 6 - It guarantees criminal the right to a public trial, the right to a lawyer, the right to a jury, and the right to know what you are being charged with.

Amendment 7 - Civil cases based on disagreements between businesses or people have a right to be decided by a jury in court. The lawsuit must be more than $20.

Amendment 8 - It does not allow the federal government to put harsh bail (for example: $1,500,000,000) on criminals. Along with this, cruel and unusual punishments are not allowed.

Amendment 9 - All rights not listed in the constitution belong to the people, not the government. This means the rights of people are not limited to what is in the constitution.

Amendment 10 - Any power not listed in the constitution belongs to the states or people. This is easily remembered as "Rights Reserved to States or People"

Amendment 11 - US courts CANNOT hear or make decisions about a case if the person suing lives in another state or another country.

Amendment 12 - Each voter has to cast two different votes for the president and vice president, instead of two votes for the president. This is because of the controversial presidential election in 1800.

Amendment 13 - This amendment abolished slavery and can only be used as a punishment for criminals.

Amendment 14 - This amendment granted citizenship to all people born or naturalized in the US, including slaves. This also guaranteed people equal protection of the law.

Amendment 15 - It granted African American men the right to vote by saying the right to vote should not be based on race/color.
