What caused the first red scare?

The revolution in Russia was one of the causes of the outbreak of the Red Scare. We can also attribute the coming about of the Red Scare, because of the patriotism following World War I, as the United States was seen as a great help, and the left-wing and anarchist agitation which was in conflict with the current government.
