Why did so many Pilgrims and Puritans move to the New World? They had overthrown the king in England and fled justice by going to the New World. They were extremely competitive and wanted to beat their English rivals to the New World. There was not enough land in England to build cathedrals as big as they could in the New World. They were persecuted for their religion in England and wanted religious freedom in the New World.
