A continuity that kept India unified despite disruptions after the fall of the Gupta empire was Hinduism.

During the period that the Guptas had control of the leadership of India, they used Hinduism as a way of unifying the people. The educational materials at the time had Hindu teachings incorporated in them.

After the Empire fell, the tenets of Hinduism still stood strong in south India. The reason it still remained was because of the measures that were taken during the reign of the Guptas.
