A. The author thinks the building of the canal was impressive that the people who designed it deserve more credit for the impact it has on the communication and transportation of China. The author says it is admirable. The canal allowed continued transportation of goods and people over water which is much faster than land. The canal starts in Beijing and ends in Hangzhou. It runs for approximately 1100 miles and connects two of the most important rivers in China, the Yangtze River, and the  Yellow River. This engineering wonder helped China to improve trade and the economy of the state. 

B. The author explains the impact of the canal allowing people to make trade in between two very far parts of the country, Beijing and Hangzhou. This allowed the culture, goods, words and people to be able to be transported from place to place easily which improved communication. Letters were able to be sent and people were able to travel easily.

C. The canal was a driving force of expansion by opening communication and was a consequence of imperial expansion in the sense that everything needed to be faster, and trade was booming. This could've led to the author giving the creators of the canal more credit because it had a larger impact on China long term than the wall.
