Hammurabi's Code has indeed, significantly impacted the development of our modern laws. Evidence of the connection between the code and our laws can be seen in the laws of nearly every country, and that evidence is proportionality. Modern laws are proportional in the sense that if one were to commit a severe crime, they would later administered severe punishment.

A second piece of evidence to further display a connection would be capital punishment. While there are many crimes that may result in capital punishment, the main one to recognize in this instance is murder. This ties back to the famous "an eye for an eye," law in Hammurabi's code, and in this case it would be "a life for a life".
