What did American women do at the homefront during World War II?

Women were employed in a variety of jobs that normally would be carried out by men. Women held jobs as farmers, defense plants, and even joined the military (normally in medical areas). On top of holding jobs traditionally held by men, they maintained their homes and normal responsibilities as wives.
