The Libertarian Party is a political party that adheres to libertarian philosophy. The party was founded out of dissatisfaction with Democratic and Republican politics, which, in the eyes of the Libertarians, became increasingly distant from the ideals of the Founding Fathers. According to the Libertarian Party, both parties are increasingly depriving citizens of rights and freedoms.

The party is generally in favor of classical liberal politics, in contrast to the modern liberal and progressive politics of the Democrats and the more conservative politics of the Republicans, it wants to lower taxes, opt-out of social security, abolish welfare, lift the ban on drugs and support the right to gun possession.
