What does Mann's evidence reveal about pre-Columbian civilizations?

Mann visited Columbia around 1491. During this period he noted and observed that the area was already populated with Indians who were majorly involved in Agricultural activities to produce food to feed their families.

Subsequent people however visited and found the land empty and it was believed the inhabitants had died during the small pox outbreak as the healthcare system during that period in the region was poor.
