Letter B: My brother is a star athlete on his high school's football team. Our family is proud of him, but
he is a perfectionist who never seems to be happy with his performance. He knows that
an athletic scholarship may be his only chance of a college education. One day when our
parents were out running errands, a strange car pulled up in front of our house. My
brother, seeming to recognize the car, quickly ran to his room then out the front door of
the house. As he zoomed past me I noticed something light green in his hand like money.
I watched out the living room window. I saw the passenger side window roll down as my
brother was approaching. My brother stuck his arm through the open window as the
driver leaned across to give my brother something. My brother handed off something to
him in exchange
The car left as quickly as it arrived and my brother walked back into the house. I met him at
the door with typical questions that anyone would have asked when they witnessed this
strange encounter. I asked him who it was and what was going on, but my brother
ignored my questions. His only response was, "Someday you will understand." He ran
upstairs and slammed the door, then locked it. Whatever my brother received from this
guy was so small that it was swallowed by his hands. Whatever it was, it's something that
my brother doesn't want my parents to know about. I can't see my brother using drugs,
but I know how concerned he is about his performance on the football field. Could my
brother be using steroids? You always seem to give the best advice. What should I do?
Your task is to pick one of the letters (A or B) and write a total of two (2) responses to that letter.
For each response, write at least two (2) paragraphs (5-7 sentences) (in a Word Document)
you will write as if you are a believer in one of the two Chinese philosophies.
1. For your first response, you will write as if you are a Confucian.
2. For your second response, you will write as if you are a Legalist.
Both of your responses should be direct reflections of the philosophies from which you are
writing. Include your advice that fits the philosophy and why it fits the philosophy.
