it got materials and/or finished products places faster, so perishable goods could be transported now. Other ways of delivery were now available, roads, boats, and now even planes. This benefits businesses because its now cheaper to ship, and it gets there faster. This benefits consumers because they can get what they need faster, and cheaper.
