Anti- Chinese sentiment increased greatly in the United States of America in the 1880s as a result of the following reasons below:

1. The number of Chinese citizens who kept on migrating to the United States thereby taking up employment as labourers in the railway sectors, construction sectors, factory and garment industries. These are works that are demanding and difficult but which the Chinese were willing to take up

2. The growing number of Chinese citizens that migrated from being labourers to becoming enterprenuers thereby establishing businesses and competiting with Amercan business owners in various business endavour.

These negative feelings of resentment towards the Chinese turned into action when:

1. legislation was passed that aimed to limit future immigration of Chinese workers to the United States.

2. The near disruption and sour diplomatic relations between American government and the Chinese government. This is based on the fact that, the Chinese people felt being "used and dumped" ( As a result of their sacrifices towards building American raılway system and beıng prevented to stay or brıng theır famıly to the country they made the sacrıfıces for).
