Well, 1960's america wasn't very... accepting.

Most gay people had to hide their feelings, internalizing it, usually ending in an unhappy marriage, and the gay people being homophobic to hide their own feelings. It also often resulted in scandals.

for many years before , lgbt people were stoned to death , burned alive , very awful things like that . in the 60s and 70s they fought a lot for their rights against the breeders / straggots . this is why the 50s - before shouldn’t be romanticized as it was a very hard time for poc + lgbt
