Why were Carthage and Rome continually at war between 264 and 146 BCE?
Both fought over control of Egypt and Greece.
Both were wealthy cities competing for land.
Rome wanted to take over land north of the Alps.
Carthage wanted to make Rome a Phoenician colony.

They first went to war because Carthage wanted to take over the island, Sicily and Sicily asked Rome for help. Rome did help and they put down Carthage and demanded payment for the damages they'd done. They took much silver that was mined in Spain and much territory from Carthage. Of course, Carthage wanted revenge. This was Hamilcar Barca's son who was only 7 at the time and he sought revenge when he was a young adult, 20 years later. Remember how Rome replicated one of Carthage's ships to create a navy? And soldiers from Carthage went through the mountains on elephants to reach within a mile of Rome before they were defeated?
