The Wounded Knee Massacre took place on December 29, 1890 in South Dakota. The U. S. troops had been uneasy about a dance called the "Ghost Dance" that had become popular among the indigenous people. A deaf tribesman named Black Coyote accidentally fired his gun when resisting disarmament, and the U. S. Army began shooting at the Native Americans.
