This developed the need for markets and merchants. The Byzantines sold silks, spices, incense, pottery, and other goods were sold in these cities. The location of Constantinople was perfect because it stood in a crossroads of Europe and Asia and the sea that linked the east to the west. Historians say that around 1 million people lived in Constantinople at its high point.

interdependence is when all participating groups and individuals depend on each other. if you depend on one anothers goods, you end up trading in order to get the items you're looking for. (for ex: if i have food and you have water, we trade in order to depend on each other to live)
