What was a Hooverville

You´ve got to go back to the times of the Great Depression that started in 1929. Hoovervilles were the shantytowns that mushroomed in American cities and where the poor people who had lost their homes (unable to pay their mortgages)  and who were unemployed lived, they had no money and could not afford to rent decent places. The Hoovervilles took their names from the name of president Herbert Hoover.
