The Battle of Britain was the end of the beginning and Stalingrad was the beginning of the end. These are probably the most major turning points (mention D-day as well). 

The reason we won was largely due to americas unbeatable economy. They were pumping tanks and planes off the assembly line likes its no ones business. If they didn't join in we'd have been up creek for sure.
