The British government passed a Tea Order allowing the East India Company to sell tea directly to colonies at a price lower than that of the black market. Enraged by this policy, the Bostonians boarded three British ships that imported tea and dumped all their supplies into the sea. The incident was an impetus for the entire American population to oppose the British, which eventually led to the American War of Independence.
