About 90% of immigrants were destined to work in farms, the other part went to shops and small business in the area of New England. After the age of majority, around 21, those immigrants were eligible to own a piece of land granted by the English colonial empire.

Around 1700 the immigration rates increased in the middle colonies, mainly from people who were seeking for freedom of religion and cheap land to manage.
