The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 was a land deal between the United States and France. All land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million which included Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska; large sums of North Dakota and South Dakota; and parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
