As more women became aware of their capabilities, feminism gained traction.The economy affected the choices that women had. Even women who were not interested in working outside of the home had to do so in order to keep the economy going and support their families. This brought them into the public sphere in an unprecedented way.The war changed the role that women played, as they actively collaborated in the effort. Women became nurses who helped soldiers in the front and back home. They also ran charities that contributed to the war effort. Moreover, as many men were gone, women needed to take the jobs that had become vacant.There were many opportunities available for women at this time, such as more freedom of movement, increased independence and availability of jobs. However, they also faced challenges such as increased responsibilities and discrimination.
