Because of the size of the U.S., the U.S. economy was not affected by the trade embargo between the two nations. The trade embargo did affect diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba, however, disrupting communication between the two countries. In fact, the U.S. and Cuba were forced to communicate with one another through Switzerland.
