The invasion of Poland by the Wehrmacht forces in 1939 was the beginning of World War II in Europe. On September 1, the German Air Force suddenly attacked Poland, without any previous announcement of the war by bombing many places in many parts of the country. Airstrikes were directed at Polish airports, factories, and traffic, to prevent mobilization and concentration of troops and isolation of Polish armies on the border front. Within two days, the German Air force completely conquered the sky over Poland and destroyed over half of the Polish planes. The military operations ended on October 6, and on October 8, Germany annexed western Poland and the city of Danzig.

Britain and France appeased Hitler because they wanted to avoid another World War. Although Hitler started to build a new army, he stopped paying the reparation, reoccupied Rhineland, that was taken from Germany, and joined German forces with Austria, Britain, and France did nothing, because of the Treaty of Versailles and their intentions to preserve world peace.
