In the end of the 19th century worker's movement was strong in their demand for the 8-hour working day. During a labor demonstration on 4 May 1886 there was a bombing directed to the police, who was trying to disperse the movement; the homemade bomb, however, started a chain of events that let many officers and civilians dead. The unknown identity of the bomber turned Haymarket Trial into the first American Red Scare and into an act of political repression of anarchist ideas.
