Today the conflict is very improbable but was it improbable is also pope as a peacemaker. I believe it would be more probable European Union to play a role of a peacemaker. Pope Francisco is Argentinian so I believe he is well familiarized with both lusophone and hispanic words and could help to mediate the negotiations. I believe that whereas Portugal is perfectly united without any separatist movements or "nations". Spain is a mixture of historically autonomous countries like Galiza, Catalonia, Navarra and País Basco, Castile, Andalusia. Franco´s centralizing policy had its effects in his times but it cannot work forever that is the difference between Spain and Portugal. I suppose Portugal is going to be stable in terms of territorial integrity whereas Spain is going to suffer some changes (probably).
