What was the original goal of the constitutional convention

The constitutional convention was held from May 14 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia. It was held to decide how America would be governed and  revise the articles of Confederation, there were many other issues that were discussed during the 100 day debates. George Washington was elected to be in charge of convention. Alexander Hamilton and James Madison wanted to create new government which would not have the weaknesses of the present government. 70 delegates were appointed by the colonies for the convention but only 55 were able to attend the convention.
