Enlightenment thinkers advocate for a reason to guide as a principle in science. They supported freedom of thought were individuals were free to choose their beliefs.

This meant no place for absolutism, no room for a single voice or authority to be solely trusted.

There was also no need for belief without any justification, so most philosophers like Didier , Rosseau, Voltaire turned to a hard criticism of religious faith. Yet they advocated for universal rights,  natural rights that are given to anyone by birth.

The private property arose, along with freedom for aristocratic classes and notions of illustrated sovereignty in contrast to despotic rule arose.

This also meant no longer to follow blindly the Pope and the church, neither the traditions and instead were to seek the excercise of reasoning and finding out by observing directly nature.
