Write a letter to her parents from a lowell girl describing her activities on her day off.

So, Lowell was were a factory was where young, unmarried girls worked. They toiled away in harsh conditions with little pay. The work was very dangerous as the machines could catch the girls' hair or skirts and pull them into the machines.
