The case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke changed the affirmative action programs in the US because the US Supreme Court declared that affirmative actions were constitutional, but the use of racial quotas was invalidated. The Court decided that the University could not have only racial quotas, the race could one used as one criterion in the admissions, but not the only one.
