Advantage

1. Missouri was going to be a slave state

2. Maine was going to be a free state

3. Slavery would not be permitted

Disadvantage

1. The North benefited from the Missouri Compromise, because they received another state in the North that did not allow slavery.

2. The North gave up the goal of not having any new slave states and so did the south.
