Art is a very important part of the human being because it helps entire civilizations to communicate their feelings, ideas and important things, but what do we think when we hear the word art? Do we consider that people that miles years ago express their feelings in caves, rocks or mountains? The answer is probably no, however we should talk about these artists.

The prehistory era can be organized in three big periods: the palaeolithic era, the neolithic era and the metal age. Each one has, of course, its features, but we will be talking about them in general terms.

This kind of artists probably weren’t interested in communicating their feelings just because they want to do it (in fact, this perception of art came up a long time later, in romantic times) or because they want to make money with them; on that times art wasn’t a product, so it doesn’t have value itself. Therefore, art in prehistory was made with a specific function, which could be to register things or capture special moments.

When we see those little drawings we should think in what they were made for and ask ourselves why the artist took a part of his time painting it, because we should take into account that they didn’t have the material that we have nowadays; they, in fact, had rudimentary tools that help them to plasm with much difficulty their ideas in hard superficies. The apparent absence of technique is due to the poor materials and knowledge they have.

On the other hand, we find all the useful stuff that was made behind and artistic point of view: glasses, graves, kitchen items, clothing, etcetera had special reasons to be marked with artistic purposes; one of these reasons was the god beliefs they had.

As we can see, prehistoric art is very different than what we know now, but it doesn’t mean that it is not art, on the contrary: in the differences and the possibility of comparing them we find what makes us a special raze: we change a lot in all ways.
