Why was dividing lee's army such a gamble?

his troops were in unfamiliar territory.
he had so few men compared to the union forces.
losing jackson meant a loss of important leadership.
the enemy outnumbered him many times over.
lee had no cavalry and therefore could not attack.

Even with these many things happening to his army, Lee won the battle.
