African american businesses recieved less income, less customers, and often times had to shut down from debts.
African Americans were relegated to certain positions in organizations. They were also paid less for working in a position in which their main counterparts earned a considerable greater amount.
In regards to businesses that were owned and operated by African Americans, they were labeled as businesses who existed exclusively to serve African Americans.

One of the effects of segregation was that African Americans started their own businesses. As African Americans were refused service in many places, they felt that their only alternative was to create their own businesses to address the needs they had. This led to a proliferation of businesses owned by African Americans.

And they also have to work for free or they had to work with a small salary.
They were exploited.
