During reconstruction, what happened to most african american families in the south?  they migrated to work on the construction of railroads across the nation.  they moved to southern cities, where they worked as skilled laborers.  they remained in rural areas and worked at jobs such as lumbering or farming.  they benefited from sherman’s plan to give or sell land to freed people.
