Jews of Ethiopian origin are known as Falashas. The name falasha means 'exiles' or 'those without land', in the Amharic language. The Falashas refer to themselves using the name of Beta Esrael (House of Israel). The religion of the falashas is a modified variant of mosaic Judaism. Their religious customs can be shared by other Jewish communities as well as differ, for example: one of the non-biblical holidays for them is that of the commemoration of Abraham. The regulations of the Sabbath are very severe. So then, Israel recognized them as authentic Jews after they passed through a small conversion.
