Hildegard Von Bingen founded the convent in Rupertsberg, Germany in 1147. She moved with her community to the convent two years later.  Hildegard, who was already a prominent figure during the foundation, was known for a prophetic vision that she first received in 1141. Hildegard, after a period of doubt, started to record not only her visions but to compose music which was deeply liturgical and poetic.  

Centuries later, the nun community residing in the convent was moved to the Eibingen abbey.
